As the temperatures rise, it’s important to take steps to keep your pet safe and comfortable during the warmer months.
Keep Hydration a Priority
Always ensure your pet has access to fresh, clean water. On hot days, consider adding ice cubes to their water bowl and placing multiple water stations around your home and yard.
Protect Against Heatstroke
Pets can overheat quickly, especially brachycephalic breeds (flat-faced dogs like Bulldogs and Pugs). Avoid exercising your pet during the hottest part of the day and never leave them in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
Parasite Prevention
Summer is peak season for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Make sure your pet’s parasite prevention is up to date. Speak to our team about the best products for your pet.
Paw Protection
Hot pavement can burn your pet’s paw pads. Test the ground with the back of your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Walk on grass where possible or use protective booties.
Sun Safety
Light-coloured and thin-coated pets can get sunburned. Pet-safe sunscreen can be applied to the nose, ears, and belly. Provide shaded areas in your yard.
